Joseph A. Guistino, CPA

Mr. Guistino is a retired partner from one of the most prestigious Big 4 firms, with over 30 years of consulting experience dedicated to the field of forensic accounting, specialized in commercial insurance claims and economic loss matters.

Professional Experience

During his 24 years at the Big 4, Mr. Guistino was Leader of Insurance Claim Services, a specialized group within a Big 4 firm's Forensics Practice, in the Advisory Line of Service. Joe’s group assisted clients in their analysis and measurement of major insurance losses, related primarily to business interruption, extra expense and property damage claims.

Over the course of his career, Joe assisted major clients of the firm on a global basis after they had suffered catastrophic events such as a hurricane, earthquake, fire, flood or other major disaster. His work on projects related to a diverse group of industries, examples of which included: industrial/automobile manufacturing, freight/passenger rail transportation, electric utility generation and distribution, real estate development and construction, mining and refining operations, and petrochemical processing. In addition, Joe has significant experience in the technology/telecommunications, healthcare, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper, agricultural, retail and hospitality industries.

Based on Joe’s expertise in the area of commercial insurance, and his combined knowledge and experience in understanding the forensic accounting, as well as the relevant insurance policy coverages and terms and conditions involved, Mr. Guistino has served as both a fact and expert witness on several litigation matters.

While at the Big 4, Mr. Guistino was also the Global Engagement Partner responsible for the oversight of all work performed by the firm, at one of the largest US based freight railroad and transportation companies. In this role, Joe oversaw several engagement teams across a Big 4 Firm's Advisory, Internal Audit and Tax Lines of Service, covering a broad base of non-audit services at the company. Prior to joining a Big 4 Firm in 1995, Joe began his career in 1986 by performing specialized forensic accounting and investigative auditing services on insurance claims and litigation support matters, for a boutique CPA firm that served the insurance industry and its legal community.

As a Certified Public Accountant in New York State, Joe’s undergraduate degree in public accounting is from Pace University in New York. Joe also holds a masters degree in Business Management from Dowling College, also in New York. During Joe’s career, he was a lead instructor at a Big 4 sponsored training seminars and spoke at several insurance industry functions – while active with the Risk & Insurance Management Society (RIMS). He was a member of the American Institute, and New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and was an associate member of the American Bar Association - Section of Litigation. Joe’s Board activities over his career, included serving as a Director on the Board of the New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF), and on the National Board of Advisors for Outward Bound.
